Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii. Brennan almost entered the ‘07 draft and likely would have been the second quarterback drafted. Despite his physical skills and production, skeptics wonder whether Brennan can play in a traditional NFL offense. We won’t know the answer to that issue until the Senior Bowl.
The writer is referring to the fact that Hawaii mostly plays out of a shotgun formation, and the run-and-shoot offense. While it’s certainly true that Colt doesn’t play in a traditional offense, the positives he would bring to an NFL team — pinpoint accuracy, leadership, scrambling ability — can’t be taught. Getting snaps from under center, you can teach.

Sporting News ranks Colt —
The top 25 college football players for 2007: 8. QB Colt Brennan, Hawaii
Ranking the top 5 offensive players at each position:
Quarterback:
1. Pat White, West Virginia
2. Colt Brennan, Hawaii
3. John David Booty, USC
4. Brian Brohm, Louisville
5. Andre Woodson, Kentucky
The breakdown: You say White can’t fling it, I say just watch. Besides, with his dual-threat ability, there is no bigger game-changer in the game today. I’d love to see Brennan play two or three big-time BCS teams, but the Hawaii schedule is putrid. I know everyone is gaga over Brohm, but I want to see him 1.) stay healthy, and 2.) carry his team in a big road game.

Brennan’s A Numbers Guy: Record setting Hawai’i QB back and ready to throw the ball a whole lot more

As spring practice neared its finish, with nearly the full allotment of practices and scrimmages under his belt, Colt Brennan posed a question that almost seemed preposterous.
“I kind of wonder if we’ll be throwing some more?” the Warriors quarterback said.
With holes to fill on the offensive line and at running back, the idea that the record-breaking signal caller could sling passes at an even greater rate than last year isn’t all that ridiculous, but certainly worrisome for Hawai’i’s opponents this fall.
After all, Brennan is the man who threw for more touchdowns than any other quarterback in NCAA history last year. He is the man who threw for 5,549 yards, completed 72 percent of his passes and nearly averaged 400 yards passing per game.

Now that the 2007 NFL Draft is over, it’s time to look at next year’s draft. This 2008 NFL Mock Draft is based on the same draft order as the 2007 draft and is for your amusement as the 2008 draft is still a year away.
8. Houston- Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii: Brennan has broken almost every record possible in college. He led the country in both total offense (4,455 yards) and total touchdowns thrown (35) in 2006. Brennan is a winner and decided to stay in college to win. What NFL team doesn’t want a kid like this?
