Sporting News on Colt’s Draft Chances

Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii. Brennan almost entered the ‘07 draft and likely would have been the second quarterback drafted. Despite his physical skills and production, skeptics wonder whether Brennan can play in a traditional NFL offense. We won’t know the answer to that issue until the Senior Bowl.

The writer is referring to the fact that Hawaii mostly plays out of a shotgun formation, and the run-and-shoot offense.  While it’s certainly true that Colt doesn’t play in a traditional offense, the positives he would bring to an NFL team — pinpoint accuracy, leadership, scrambling ability — can’t be taught.  Getting snaps from under center, you can teach.
