Brennan averages 373.20 passing yards per game, second to Harrell at 441.50.
In passing, Brennan is No. 4 with an NCAA statistical point-total of 163.4. Oklahoma’s Corey Bradford is No. 1 at 182.2.

Chris Spielman, former Pro-Bowl linebacker and current ESPN color commentator: “Colt Brennan, again I want to make this point. Because I made it in the first half, and I want it to those watching in the second half. You can say system quarterback, nonsystem quarterback. I’m here to tell you from my point of view: nobody is as good as he is that I’ve seen in the country. He’s accurate, he’s on time and that ball is delivered with velocity.”

No video clip ready yet, but here’s the text:
Fowler: who deserves the Heisman?
Lee: I think colt Brennan quarterback of Hawaii should be considered. First of all, he’s undefeated quarterback; he’s senior, holds almost all NCAA passing record ever and the guy’s been a leader of a football team and brought them all of the way from the top. Remember, we wanted to see how he did last night. Right, five touchdown passes. A touchdown run. The guy’s sensational. He’s got Washington next week. I think another performance like that, he certainly deserves to be considered for the Heisman trophy.
Kirk: considering means getting enough votes to get to New York. Looking at the Heisman coming into the weekend, I felt like a lot of people, Tim Tebow with 26 touchdown passes and 20 touchdowns was the leader coming into the week […]

If Hawaii can beat Washington next week, should Hawaii go to the BCS? ESPN’s College Gameday — including Herby, who doubted Hawaii for a while — says yes.
Below is partial rough transcript, taken off closed captioning services:
lee: they deserve in the bcs. boise state is in the same league. boise state won all of their games last year, they went into the bcs. Hawaii’s winning all of their games. why wouldn’t they be in the bcs? this bysie state was number three in the nation in scoring defense. Hawaii held them to 27 points. zero points in the fourth quarter. much better football team than people give them credit. the reason s we never get to see them because they play off the mainland.
>> kirk: how cool was that to see their home stadium rocking? that was a hostile environment last night. boise state had to deal with in trying to execute their own offense. i personally know that Hawaii had a chance to run the table. i wanted to see them play nevada on the road and against a boise state very talented on both sides of the ball. the way they played last night and with all of these teams losing in front of them, i think Hawaii deserves a chance now that have taken care of business the last couple of weeks. colt brennan’s a great story. the offense has been bcs quality all year. i think the defense made a strong statement last night. fun to to see them in bcs.
>> lee: they still have to beat washington.
>> kirk: yeah. what about you?
>> chris: i have been waiting also to see, no question in mind that they deserve an bcs at-large bid. tell you what, texas loss helped Hawaii. ahead of them in the polls. oregon loss. that would also help Hawaii to get up there in poll average. did you imagine lsu wins the s.e.c.? plays in the sugar against Hawaii. welcoming welcome inside the with no wind?
>> chris: all-time chance. respect for a lifetime. beat lsu in the superdome.
>> kirk: plus they can do that pregame dance that’s sweet. >>

Larry Smith of CNN Headline News: “How about the QB Colt Brennan? How can this guy not win the Heisman?”
How about the QB Colt Brennan? How can this guy not win the Heisman? 5 TDs passes in the game last night, one of them was the 122nd of his career. That’s a new NCAA record, that breaks the mark held by former Heisman winner Ty Detmer, who played for BYU.
Categories: Awards · Quotes about Colt · Video

Colt Brennan threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Grice-Mullins with 3:53 left in the first quarter of Hawaii’s game against Boise State today to break the NCAA Division I record with his 122nd career touchdown pass.
He also broke Detmer’s records for points and touchdowns responsible for on the same play.
Brennan had previously been tied with Ty Detmer for the record.
Colt currently has 126 TDs for the season. He went 40 / 53, 495 yards, 5 TDs, 2 INT.
More importantly, though, that near 80% completion rate was against a top 20 team in a conference championship game, not some ‘cupcake.’ Anyone think Colt can’t compete against strong opponents?

HONOLULU (AP) — Unbeaten. Record-breaking. Western Athletic Conference champion. Maybe BCS bound.
All apply to Colt Brennan and Hawaii.
The Warriors’ prolific passer threw five touchdowns to break the major college career record as No. 14 Hawaii beat No. 17 Boise State 39-27 Friday night to win its first outright WAC title.
Brennan had a message to anyone who still doubts his team is one of the nation’s best.
“That’s three weeks in a row the so-called experts and critics out there said we were going to lose and we didn’t,” he said. “Obviously they need to re-check what they’re doing because they’re wrong.”

If not for a recruit decommitting, Boise QB Taylor Tharp may have ended up at Hawaii.
Taylor Tharp was on the Brink of becoming a Warrior.
If Alex Brink hadn’t changed his commitment to Washington State four years ago, Tharp might have been the quarterback for Hawaii tomorrow instead of Boise State when the teams meet for the Western Athletic Conference championship at Aloha Stadium.
Things worked out pretty well for the Warriors and Broncos. UH ended up with Colt Brennan at quarterback, a former walk-on who will finish his storied career in a few weeks as the greatest football player in the school’s history.
In Tharp, the Broncos have a capable replacement for three-year starter Jared Zabransky. The senior, who had never started a game before this year, has led BSU to a 10-1 record and is closing in on 3,000 yards and 30 touchdown passes.
In 2003, when Brennan was a freshman at Colorado, Tharp (who’s father, Dick, was the Buffaloes’ athletic director) was a high school senior. He was leaning toward UH, especially since Boise State had a quarterback in its recruiting class and Hawaii didn’t.

The Finalists Coming Down The Stretch
QB Colt Brennan, Sr. Hawaii
Last Week: Brennan completed two of two pass for 21 yards in the 28-26 win over Nevada.
After missing most of the Nevada game with a concussion, he’s back for the showdown with Boise State for the WAC title. He won’t win the Heisman because his stats aren’t going to be strong enough, but he’ll be a finalist if Hawaii goes unbeaten and to the BCS.

While at first the big story was the non-playing status of Colt, the larger story became the steady play of backup JR Tyler Graunke and the clutch kicking of Dan Kelly.
Colt played in the first series of the game, throwing two passes and completing both. Tyler Graunke was the starter — according to ESPN, and several other sources, June Jones decided it would be best for Colt and his future to sit him out this game.
Graunke completed 33 of 46 passes for 358 yards, 2 TDs and no picks.
Dan Kelly kicked the winning FG in the closing minute.
UH improves to a perfect 10-0 on the season. Because of the close score, it’s entirely possible Hawaii won’t move up much in the BCS standings. Next week, though, will be the true test of how much Hawaii can move up — it plays BCS top 20 team Boise State in what may very well be the biggest game in the history of UH athletics.
After the game, Jones said Colt would play next week.

Hawai’i quarterback Colt Brennan yesterday said he feels he is “close to 100″ percent, has not experienced any adverse side effects from a concussion suffered Saturday, and wants to play in Friday’s nationally televised road game against Nevada.
Head coach June Jones said Brennan will be held out of today’s practice as a precaution, and his condition will be evaluated tonight.
The Warriors practice tomorrow morning, and depart for Reno in the afternoon. Asked about being added to the 64-player travel roster, Brennan said: “I’m going. The way I feel right now — I haven’t had any symptoms — I have to think that I’d at least be in the discussion to play on Friday.”
He acknowledged a decision will be based on long-term ramifications and the rest period needed to minimize a recurrence.

Good news from today’s Star Bulletin:
His condition was later described as a “mild concussion,” and a UH official described Brennan as “day-to-day” when it comes to football duties. Brennan did not require hospitalization.
Coach June Jones said he does not expect Brennan to miss Friday’s game at Nevada.
Neither does Brennan’s father.

Colt was knocked out of the UH-Fresno State game with a grade 3 concussion, according to the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Colt was hurt in a helmet-to-helmet hit by a Fresno State player. Hawaii was victorious, 37-30.
A grade 3 concussion is considered the most severe type of concussion.
Obviously, as more information becomes available, I’ll post more about the injury.
Please pray and hope for a speedy recovery for Colt.
Update: Writes the SB: “Brennan was diagnosed with a mild concussion, upgraded from a more severe concussion.”
From a UH press release: “I’m doing fine,” Brennan said after the game. “I’d like to thank everyone for the support they gave out there. I’m looking forward to getting back on the field for next week’s game against Nevada.”

Yes, we know: Colt Brennan is a longshot for the Heisman trophy.
Colt plays when the mainland is asleep. Last year, Colt put up arguably the best statistical season in the history of college football — and still only got 6th place. And there’s that schedule (which Colt had nothing to do with) ….
Still, as most have noted, just an invitation to New York for the WAC QB would be validation and an honor in and of itself.
Is Colt still in the Heisman running?
Two writers say yes.
Bryan Burwell of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
— Hawaii’s Colt Brennan: His stats are so spectacular (not counting stats against non-Division I competition, seven games, 225 of 328 passing for 2,820 yards, 26 TDs, 11 interceptions; 50 rushes for 51 yards, six TDs) and his team is unbeaten, so he’s hard to ignore. What he needs to do: Brennan needs to overcome lack of TV exposure and weak schedule with big games against Fresno State, Nevada, Boise State and Washington. It probably still won’t be enough to win, but it should make him a finalist.
Much like the race for No. 1, most of the preseason candidates for the Heisman Trophy have been reduced to also-rans. It’s safe to say that Brian Brohm, John David Booty, Ray Rice, Steve Slaton, and DeSean Jackson will not win the 2007 Heisman Trophy.
Preseason fav Darren McFadden of Arkansas resurrected his otherwise moribund campaign with a remarkable 323-yard evening Saturday against South Carolina. What also keeps McFadden in the picture is that he and the Hogs still face Tennessee, Mississippi State, and LSU, offering plenty of big-game value.
Still, this year is about the quarterbacks. At this point, the Heisman committee should be readying invitations for Oregon’s Dennis Dixon, Florida’s Tim Tebow, Boston College’s Matt Ryan, and Hawaii’s Colt Brennan.
A fifth invite ought to be reserved for McFadden (last year’s runner-up), Michigan’s Michael Hart, Kansas’ Todd Reesing, or Missouri’s Chase Daniel. The actual invitations won’t need to go out until the week preceding the Dec. 8 announcement, so Reesing or Daniel could make serious inroads in their showdown on Nov. 24.
Needless to say, the performances in the last four games will determine whether or not Colt gets the invite.

ESPN2 covered the Nevada — New Mexico State game on Friday.
During the game, the ESPN2 team talked about the top NFL prospects from the WAC. First noting that opinion differs widely, they noted that Scouts Inc projects Colt to be a 2nd to 3rd round pick.
Rob Stone, meanwhile, relayed info that Woody Widenhofer, who coached the famed Steelers Defense of the 1970s, said Colt is not only a great college quarterback, but will also be a great NFL quarterback.
Chris Spielman, a former NFL linebacker, 4-time Pro Bowler and current ESPN color guy, said he also thinks Colt has one of the best releases in college and will be a great NFL quarterback.

Besides believing in second chances, Jones has accepted unwanted athletes because Hawaii, 2,500 miles from Los Angeles, can’t recruit top prep talent the way other major college programs do. While plenty of teens like to go away to college, few want to make at least a 5-hour plane trip to get back home. [...]
Hawaii’s second-chance stars are: quarterback Colt Brennan, receiver Davone Bess, linebacker Adam Leonard and running back Leon Wright-Jackson.
“I’ve been lucky,” Jones said. “I’ve chosen some good kids that I’ve taken chances on.”
